How Accurate Is Hiv Testing At Three Months

Fly (Black Swan)

Obsession a filmmaker who portrays a society obsessed. Darren Aronofsky returns to approach this issue from the pursuit of perfection in The Black Swan, his latest film. Expert him to show the motivations and paths leading to a human being to strive for a personal goal, recover or just look.

One elderly woman chasing a longing that transcends the limits of his own body and health in breathtaking Requiem for a Dream , showed us how far the human spirit in the pursuit of their goals. In wrestler, glory achieved and loss of its star returned to stage both persistence and fragility of human dreams and he is pressured by a society in constant competition.

For Black Swan, the vehicle for bringing to the screen-and very successful-the insecurities and frustrations is the actress Natalie Portman. Her character, Nina Sayers was debate between fervent discipline as a ballet dancer and the fear of not living up to expectations of her mother, director and all of herself, now seeks to occupy the lead role in ballet.

Every gesture, the same figure and several scenes monological will go into that personal distress, which basically is also collective. Without abusing special effects elements in the plot is turning to small details that show the state of excitement, paranoia and control of the character that are assuming a mouthful of action. Subtly

details are added: a whisper, a drop a bite, a tune, a lipstick or the constant presence of mirrors. An orderly world but still far from ideal and waiting for the right moment to break free. "Perfection is not only control but also letting go", says one of the protagonists of the film and this is the time that Nina will be carefully approached and that the viewer will also require.

Portman brings to his characterization of the fragility necessary to understand those feelings of guilt, desire to succeed, the search for control and latent need for flying. So this psychological drama takes shape and becomes more vivid metaphor. The internal enemy, the Black Swan appears like a phoenix and reveals the best side of an actress and incidentally, of a director.

The Pit And The Pendulum 2009

The Fragile

Two editors shared at an event in Bogotá their views on the world of print publications. In an age where the digital book and the internet take more effective as a diffusion mechanism, how can you get a writer to publish a book under the traditional system still prevails where the figure of the editor?

By Camilo Calderón Steel

The publishing industry has remained low and unchanging routines for many decades. Many writers have finished their literary expectations long before it was published as the hand of an editor or indifference have held such interests. Still, keep coming hundreds of manuscripts from new writers to the publishing industry, which views thus seem more insurmountable than the Great Wall of China.

However, the revolution of new technologies has begun to generate variations in the traditional publishing model and created an alternative way for the writer. For Maria Candelaria Posada, editor of Children's Literature in Editorial Standard until 2004, reaching the gates of a large size editorial Alfaguara Planet or loss is a battle for the beginner, but it is the only place where to start . Posada

establishes two clear strategies for writer: using digital media like blogs to publicize the work and reach independent publishing. Also participate in literary competitions but not large scale and participate in creative writing workshops to give maturity to the manuscript before reaching the editor. These suggestions are more for matters of form rather than substance because, "the writer is first and foremost an artist who does not owe anything to anyone, regardless of what you say," emphasizes Posada. For her, the editor's role should not go beyond complement the work of the author.

considered differently from Carlos Sánchez Lozano, author and textbook editor for over 20 years, for whom the editor has a lot of interference in reviewing manuscripts, being who may suggest a higher or remove chapters and even get to propose a change of gender to a character. These criteria are not arbitrary at all, according to Sanchez are ways to ensure the publication of the work and the books are part of a publishing company, which like all others, should generate profits and depends on the editor "to ensure that the work say what should say. "

Editors should make books that society needs, strongly emphasizes Sanchez, not with the intention of discouraging but also as a suggestion for writers. These are not texts to accommodate what publishers need. The formula for it is to be resourceful and exploit 'niches', these specific groups of readers who want to write them and are underutilized. After this step should ideally investigate by publishers to publish texts or collections aimed at that audience.

However, this road is not complete if the work has not previously been through 'filters', either a narrative workshop, the hand of a literary agent has reached the hands of the editor for a recommendation. The whole process is based on the large number of manuscripts that can have an editor of a major publisher on your desktop or e-mail inbox, which in the words of Sanchez impossible to see all quickly. Inevitably, the manuscripts 'filtered' will be first on the reading list for the editor and are not the best.

* This practice of journalism was not meant to be published and this is the ideal place to do it and that it is not shelved.

Fraud: Andrew Wakefield's study on vaccines and autism

Like virtually any other medical breakthrough, technical or scientific history, vaccines have always had detractors.

In recent years these were based much of his anti-vaccine in a study by Dr. Andrew Wakefield published in The Lancet -Wakefield suggesting that he dared not say categorically that there was "a relationship between the administration of MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) and the development of autism in children who had been given.

Fortunately, although very late, up to early last year, The Lancet announced the withdrawal of the study in question, originally published in 1998, it had found several items that were incorrect.

And shortly after the General Medical Council United Kingdom withdrew its license after finding that Wakefield acted unethically, especially subjecting children who had been part of the study probably unnecessary testing without parental permission.

But what had happened, although he knew that no other study had replicated the results of Wakefield, is a journalist Brian Deer research published in 2009 and pulled to the ground throughout the study and showed that it was a fraud and which, among other things Wakefield had altered the patient data to make them fit with the results I wanted.

Specifically, only one of 12 children who participated in the study-a figure too low to start, was diagnosed with autism, rather than the nine who said Wakefield.

other hand, of the 12 children involved, five already had been diagnosed with developmental problems before starting the study, while Wakefield said that all were healthy.

addition, these children were selected from families associated with vaccinia groups, and funding for the study came from a lawyer which aimed to sue the pharmaceutical manufacturers of the vaccine.

The magnificent work of Deer, which can be read in The MMR-autism fraud - our story so far , has gone back to the light these days because the BMJ (British Medical Journal) has just started publishing a series articles written about by Deer, the first of which can be read in How The Case Against the MMR vaccine WAS fixed.

seems indisputable that Wakefield acted in bad faith, also burned by past failures when trying to prove his theories more or less equally crazy, but this case also sheds light on the relatively easy it is to sink a case study at a prestigious publication as The Lancet, thanks to the confidentiality of patient information. In fact, Deer led him neither more nor less than five years get all the pieces of this story.

What is amazing after all this is that Wakefield is still practicing as a doctor without much problem in the United States.

But the worst is no doubt that his fraudulent research has contributed to a decline in the number of vaccinations, and that kills .
